ABSTRACT

Like other organs, bones are susceptible to a range of diseases. Commonly occurring bone-related diseases are bone metastasis, osteomyelitis, osteoporosis, arthrosis, and so on (Odgreen and Martin 2000). These diseases increase the economic toll on the health systems worldwide and also decrease the quality of life for millions of people each year. Since the last few decades, an impressive progress has been recorded in terms of developing drug delivery approaches and devices to treat these bonerelated diseases (Pham et  al. 2002; Takahashi-Nishioka et  al. 2008; Nayak et  al. 2010, 2011a). Targeting bone tissues to treat these diseases is an important and effective approach in the eld of drug delivery technology.
