ABSTRACT

Organizations achieve sustainable success in part by improving their ability for all leaders, members, or employees to make decisions. The success of any sustainability effort depends on the effective use of decision making, knowledge management, and sense making. Risk management provides the foundation for informed decision making. It needs to be integrated into activities supporting the achievement of the strategic objectives and the decision-making process. Organizations usually have a decision-making framework that helps control the decision-making process. There are a large number of different kinds of decision-making techniques. Organizations select from the techniques depending on styles that range from autocratic to unanimity-based decision making. All organizations need to develop the capacity to continuously create new knowledge. A learning organization values the role that learning can play in developing organizational effectiveness. It demonstrates this by having an inspiring vision for learning and a learning strategy that will support the organization in achieving its strategic objectives.
