ABSTRACT

In principle, the strategy for the treatment and prevention of pediatric obesity is straightforward: (1) identify the causes for why some youths become fatter than others, (2) design interventions to counteract these causes, and (3) implement these interventions on a widespread basis. Unfortunately, none of the processes involved is simple. Thus, a 2015 review of determinants of childhood obesity in Europe concluded, “The true causes of the childhood obesity epidemic remain undiscovered, and the ability of research to identify effective prevention and treatment methods is compromised.”1
