ABSTRACT

The occurrence of organic compounds in whole fish tissue is summarised in Table 3.1. The main classes of compounds so far investigated are alicyclic and aromatic hydrocarbons and polyaromatic hydrocarbons (Table 3.1); various chlorinated compounds, including chlorinated aliphatics and aromatics, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and chlorinated insecticides (Table 3.2); and a compound which is causing great environmental concern, 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzopdioxin (Table 3.3).
