ABSTRACT

Conventional power sources, especially coal-based sources, have led to excessive emissions of greenhouse gas (i.e. carbon dioxide) into the atmosphere, which has led to a serious ecological, social and economic impact across the globe. It is equally true that energy demand has been on a steady rise mainly on account of enhanced population growth coupled with an expanding industry base and geographic distribution. This is where the need of renewable energy (RE) in a far greater measure seems to be inevitable. The increasing utilization of RE is expected to scale up the global energy production to the extent that it would dispense with at least some use of the finite resources. The underlying idea is to protect the environment to the best possible extent. It is in sync with what the clean energy use campaigns championed by several countries across the globe aim at in ultimate terms.
