ABSTRACT
To ensure the safety of the electrical systems in buildings, it is important that proper protection devices be utilized. The main role of protection devices is to disconnect and isolate faulty portions of the electrical system in case of overloading and/or short circuiting conditions. Depending on the type of loads, suitable types and response characteristics of the protection devices should be specified. This chapter outlines the different types of protection devices, their performance characteristics, and their design specifications.
