ABSTRACT

Emulsion formation means that oil drops remain dispersed for a given length of time. The stability and the characteristics of these emulsions are related to the area of application. Emulsions are mixtures of two or more immiscible substances. Emulsions are systems where one needs to apply both water and oil to an application. The emulsion technology is basically thus concerned in preparing mixtures of two immiscible substances: Oil, Water. Emulsions are among the most important structures that are prepared specifically for a given application. The stability of emulsions is dependent on various parameters. The stability of emulsions can thus be increased by decreasing the counter-ion concentration. Another important emulsion stabilization technique is achieved by using polymers. Microemulsions are found to differ in many ways from the ordinary emulsion structure. Microemulsions are also, therefore, characterized as microstructured, thermodynamically stable mixtures of water:oil:surfactant:additional components.
