ABSTRACT

Since the first wire medium with negative permittivity was artificially realized in 1996 [1], together with the first negative permeability realized in 1999 [2] in verifying the fabulous negative refraction [3] in experiments [4], metamaterials have achieved tremendous developments in the past 20 years. It is impossible to include all excellent advances on metamaterials in a single book. Hence, this book summarizes only a small part of the vast progresses of metamaterials, which is conducted in the State Key Laboratory of Millimeter Waves, Southeast University, China. In this book, we concentrate only on the metamaterials based on the effective medium theory in the microwave frequencies.
