ABSTRACT

Simply stated, healthcare involves the provision of patient care. However, underlying that simple premise is the reality of interacting with, diagnosing, treating, healing, rehabilitating, and caring for the fullest range of the human population representing every imaginable size, shape, age, and level of wellness, health, injury, illness, or infirmity from before birth to after death. Consequently, healthcare work settings encompass a range of activities and locations wider and more varied than any other industry sector. From back streets to battlefields, hospitals to homes, the highest tech to the highest touch, healthcare workers occupy and labor in some of the most challenging work settings imaginable.
