ABSTRACT

This chapter considers stratified paired 2×2 $ 2\times 2 $ tables, stratified r×2 $ r\times 2 $ tables, stratified 2×c $ 2\times c $ tables, and stratified r×c $ r\times c $ tables. It presents data from a study by Fontanella et al. of the association between danger to others as an ordered variable with four outcome categories and sex as the group variable. The chapter explores maximum likelihood estimates for the logit link when estimating a trend. It provides methods for two multicategory variables, stratified on a third multicategory variable. A generalization to the stratified case with K=2 $ K \ge 2 $ was suggested by A. Agresti and B. A. Coull, which also include procedures for estimating and testing for order restrictions of the grouping effects and a method for calculating order restricted maximum likelihood estimates of the grouping effect.
