3.1.1 Philosophies of science
The broad, theoretical and applied context of sustainability and resiliency in SES systems and the fundamental elements of CAS systems were discussed previously in Chapter 1. This chapter extends this discussion in more depth with details on different modeling approaches, assumptions, and mathematical/computational representations. A brief background on CAS modeling linked with a Systems Science and the Ecosystem perspective is first presented.
