ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses a new and innovative method for preparing companies and organizations to address the substantial risk of disasters in the workplace. Risks of varying types and magnitudes exist in every workplace on a daily basis; however, some risks are far greater than others and can be disastrous if not identified and properly addressed in terms of reducing the probability of the risk. One essential area often overlooked in the preparation of an emergency and disaster preparedness plan is control of the information and image of your organization being projected to the world by the media. Safety professionals should also consider the damage inflicted by a disaster on shareholder perceptions of the operations of a publicly held company.
