In the long history of humankind those who learned to collaborate and improve most effectively have prevailed.

Never underestimate the potential outcomes of a ratified GIS vision statement that is supported by specific goals and objectives. I do not think that anyone, anywhere would challenge the idea that having a vision for the future of your organization’s GIS is necessary. There are hundreds of books, blogs, Websites, and tweets that emphasize the importance of having a mission statement, a vision statement, goals, and objectives. GIS is no different from any other initiative that requires planning, foresight, and vision. Ronald Reagan was quoted saying, “To grasp and hold a vision is the very essence of successful leadership.” And I support the notion that belief and leadership play a distinct role in the success of an enterprise GIS.
