ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: It is desirable to understand the role of blade twist angle in wind turbine performance analysis. In this study, the influence of flake-type blade twist angle on the performance of a horizontalaxis wind turbine for different wind speeds and blade numbers is investigated. The wind tunnel experiments are performed in a low-speed, open circuit wind tunnel, and the CFD software STAR CCM+ is used to provide valuable information for the understanding of flow behavior. Results reveals that, when the blade twist angle increases, the power output and conversion efficiency increase to their maxima and then decrease for different wind speeds and blade numbers. It is also found that increasing the wind speed and blade number can further magnified the critical twist angle.
