As we noted in an earlier chapter (Section 2.7), there are two possible approaches to the business of assembling an anthropometric database: the purist and the pragmatic. In compiling the tables that follow, the latter has been adopted. The technique used most extensively is that of ratio scaling, a more detailed discussion of which will be found in the Appendix Section A8.3 and in Pheasant (1982). Dimensions marked with an asterisk (*) are quoted from the original sources. The remainder have been estimated. Details of the sources are given below. Definitions of the dimensions which are tabulated together with some notes on application will be found in Chapter 2.
