ABSTRACT
There was a feeling among some in the project group that, despite what has been said, it is the GP’s job to read between the lines, interpret non-verbal behaviour and somehow understand the adolescent’s underlying problem in the limited time available. If they do not and things go wrong, the GP often blames him- or herself:
I let her down. I handled it very badly.
