ABSTRACT
Endocytosis is a form of transmembrane transport by which molecules cross inwards through cellular membranes in vesicles. Most macromolecules too large to enter cells by diffusion enter by endocytosis. Uptake of cellular material by endocytosis is called phagocytosis; pinocytosis is endocytosis of fluid.
