ABSTRACT

Intraocular pressure (IOP) results from the balance between aqueous production and drainage within the relatively non-distensible globe. Aqueous is produced by the ciliary epithelium. The majority of aqueous drains via the trabecular meshwork into Schlemm’s canal (conventional route); a proportion drains via the uveoscleral route (non-conventional route). Mean IOP is 16.5 mmHg with a standard deviation of 2.5 mmHg.
