In tro d u ctio n In this area, more than in any other, a sensitive approach is required in trying to understand problems from the Jewish patients’ perspective. Tradi­ tional Jewish practices, ideas, attitudes and concepts are in very many cases so different from contemporary understanding and mores that those caring for Jewish patients, particularly orthodox ones, may have consider­ able difficulty appreciating concepts that they may find conflicting with their own values and training.
