ABSTRACT

Jews consider all human life to be sacred and all human life is considered to be of equal and infinite value. Concepts of the value of life or even the rela tive value of life, or the relative value of one human life over another, are totally alien to the Jewish way of thinking. Because of the belief that all life is of infinite value, it follows that even the smallest part of any life is still of infinite value - because a small part of infinity is still infinity. To those Jews who really believe that all life is of equal value, the life of a child born with multiple handicaps is no less valuable than that of a venerable sage or a young breadwinner. The elderly, no matter how weak, sick or demented, are afforded great respect both from close family and the wider community and are often cared for lovingly at considerable material and emotional cost.
