ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the authors discuss about the Personal development plan (PDP) process, looks at the paperwork involved and illustrate through an example. Each of the three words 'personal', 'development' and 'plan' has significance. Because the PDP is the cornerstone of professional development, it is important that reader make their own interpretation of the purpose and potential of the plan. The PDP is a process by which authors identify our educational needs, set ourselves some objectives in relation to these, undertake our educational activities and produce evidence that them have learns something useful. The PDP is owned by the learner, who has principal responsibility for writing the plan. Whatever activities authors ultimately use, they will give rise to some documentary proof of learning such as our written evaluation of them, and this paperwork may be used as evidence to be kept in our portfolio.
