ABSTRACT

The changing HIV/AIDS pandemic in the third world In a book the author wrote a few years ago (MacDonald, 2000), he devoted his attention to the situation in Africa. At that time and till now the cataclysm of HIV/AIDS (Human Immunodeficiency Virus/Acquired Immune Deficiency Syn drome) was racing through many communities, preventing the education of children, undermining rational economic planning and tearing communities apart. It illus trated most graphically the main theses of this book - namely, that the poverty and degradation of the third world is, in large measure, the result of first world financial control through global capitalism.
