ABSTRACT

Dieting has been included to show how it compares with eating disorders; most people who diet do not have an eating disorder. There are three different types of eating disorder: Anorexia nervosa, Bulimia nervosa and Binge-eating disorder. One established method that can help people with anorexia to reduce their fear and take some control over eating is to keep a diary. Anorexia nervosa is a serious illness – a doctor should be consulted if there is any suspicion that it is developing. Useful approaches to anorexia can be divided into three main areas: seeking advice and understanding the condition, discovering alternative coping strategies for stress and building self-esteem and knowing how to deal with eating and food issues. Eating disorders arise when abnormal eating is triggered by emotional upset. The aim is to understand the emotions related to food, rather than to worry over the food itself.
