ABSTRACT

This chapter helps insulin levels to improve and also helps should boost long-term healthy lifestyle changes. Aiming to keep fit and healthy, keep weight under control and not to smoke are all very important aspects for someone with diabetes, because all these measures will help to keep their blood a bit 'cleaner' and reduce the chance of diabetic-related conditions. Each condition is discussed, some briefly and some in more depth, with details of how and when to obtain further advice. These conditions are abdominal pain, acne, allergies, anorexia or loss of appetite, appendicitis, coeliac disease, constipation, contraception, depression, diabetes, diarrhoea and gastroenteritis, inflammatory conditions of the gut, irritable bowel syndrome, polycystic ovary syndrome, premenstrual syndrome, teenage pregnancy and nutrition, thyroid disorders and tooth decay. Acne is a common problem affecting about 90% of young people at some stage. It often settles down during the twenties, although some adults find it remains a problem in later life too.
