ABSTRACT

This chapter concentrates on the practice manager who is given sufficient scope by the partners to manage all aspects of the practice, and who is expected to participate in all practice activities. The practice manager is neither partner nor the usual employee. The practice manager shall be responsible for the efficient, effective and safe administrative and financial management of the practice, and ensure the well-being of patients, doctors and staff, and the successful smooth running of the practice. The practice manager's responsibilities to the staff are clear. The practice manager's discretion is often needed to deal with a situation quickly and effectively. The practice manager has a vital role to play in maintaining an eye on the partners as people as well as doctors. Each practice manager has a unique personality and should use this to evolve a management style.
