ABSTRACT

Communication' is the ability to impart information, knowledge and ideas from one person to another, either individually or in groups. It forms the framework without which organizations will fail to function. Communication is a two-way process. It involves listening and receiving as well as imparting information and feelings. It is a dynamic process with subtle nuances. The disadvantage of written communication is that it is not face to face. Face-to-face communication with an individual is generally more effective than telephoning, which in turn may be more effective than writing. A truly effective group is frequently one that attends regular formal meetings where the team objectives are clearly established and a jointly recognized level of communication is agreed in order to achieve cohesion. Communication may be simply broken down into collection of information from the periphery to the centre and transmission of instructions from the centre to the periphery.
