ABSTRACT

Mandy sat in the chair in the counselling room feeling very quiet and withdrawn. She looked down and counted the patterns in the carpet. She didn’t want to be there, and she didn’t feel there was anything wrong to make her have to be there. She hated talking about herself – she hated herself, well, not all of herself, just her shape. She didn’t understand the people around her who told her she was too thin, that she should put on a bit of weight, fill-out a little. That wasn’t how she experienced herself. As far as she was concerned she just felt …, the words that always came to mind were, “like a lump”.
