ABSTRACT

Prader-Willi syndrome is a complex genetic condition characterised by neuro logical impairments causing an altered pattern of growth and development, with hyperphagia (excessive eating). This preoccupation with food and accompanying compulsion to eat can cause extreme obesity and premature death. Lifelong inter ventions by a multidisciplinary team (including a dietician to prevent excessive weight gain) are crucial. Although there are reports of people living into their eighth decade, there is still significantly increased morbidity and mortality. Most adults live with family or in accommodation with formal support networks.
