ABSTRACT

Tuberous sclerosis is characterised clinically by three classical features: intellectual disability, epilepsy and the ‘butterfly-shaped' facial rash of angiofibromatas (also known as adenoma sebaceum). It is a multisystem genetic disease in which there are tuber-like growths in the brain and other major organs (including heart and kidneys). However, there is wide variation in the spectrum and severity of its effects, and some have no obvious signs of the condition.
