ABSTRACT
All civilisations have their sacred cows – beliefs or principles whose truth is taken for granted, questioned only by heretics or the feeble-minded. General practice has a few sacred cows of its own: the primary healthcare team, for example; the sanctity of the doctor-patient relationship; independent contractor status.
