ABSTRACT

This chapter presents material that help supervisors to better understand the teaching and learning processes involved in clinical supervision. One way of thinking about teaching and learning is to consider the degree of responsibility that lies with both the teacher and the learner. The models of teaching could be placed along a spectrum of responsibility for learning. Educators often divide components of learning into knowledge, skills and attitude domains, as this helps us to understand that learning must incorporate what to do, how to do it, and when, where and why to do it. Just as curriculum content is dependent on the level of learning, some teaching and learning methods are more appropriate to different levels of learning. In adult learning, different learning styles are better suited to different teaching styles. All teaching practices should develop a practice teaching plan that guides practice-based teaching and learning.
