ABSTRACT
‘Cultural and ethnic issues’ have been a source of concern among health workers, who may assume that the categories which they use are neutral, but then find themselves having to deal with a negative response from clients or patients. This is because ‘culture’ and ‘ethnicity’ are also part of a complex social discourse linked with notions of agency, power, discrimination and oppression.
