Dealing with the ‘difficult patient’

The ‘difficult patient’ has always been a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge for physicians. However, in the current legal environment, the difficult patient can become a high legal risk patient as well. Diagnostic and therapeutic decisions with these patients are hindered by various factors. Although every physician probably has her unique list of patient attributes that she would consider difficult, we have chosen some with which we believe most would concur.
