ABSTRACT

Nurses frequently take a lead role in the management of chronic diseases. Please reread the introduction to Chapter 4 about your need to be qualified for a specialist role.

Case study 8.1 Miss Tension plonked herself down at your well woman clinic and described her headaches, rubbing her forehead with her right hand as she spoke. The pressing ache felt like a tight band around her head that could last for a few hours to whole days. The headaches had been present for years off and on, but had become a daily occurrence since her partner had left her as she struggled to combine a full-time job with looking after her young son. She was still able to go about her normal activities when the headaches were in full fling - they did not stop her from doing her job or domestic tasks at home.
