ABSTRACT

Patients often complain of a sour taste in the mouth; this may occur mostly at night and the patient finds that in the morning, regurgitated fluid has stained the pillow.

Important questions to ask are: ^ Any postural symptoms? Is it worse after large meals? With postural regurgitation,

symptoms are increased by a supine posture or are worse after large meals. ^ Timing of symptoms: Increased symptoms at night? Do they cause coughing? This

may be due to a constricting lesion, but is more common in motility disorders, e.g. achalasia.
