ABSTRACT

The word miscellaneous means ‘consisting of diverse things or members; heterogeneous’ (Merriam-Webster). In clinical medicine, many of the miscellaneous disorders are often the most interesting. The conditions described in this section do not fall into the more common organ system disorders, but many of these cases can enter the front door of any busy small animal practice at any time, and some of these conditions have distinct clinical signs that make them very diagnosable by the busy practitioner. The unique conditions or techniques provided in this section include feline cryptorchidism, calvarial hyperostosis, cartilaginous exostoses, rapid abdominocentesis, nutritional bone disease, mucopolysaccharidosis, polymyositis, thiamine deficiency, and others. Hopefully, the reader will find this section interesting mainly because of the diverse disorders included. The legends associated with each image highlight the distinguishing features of the respective disorder. Any major spark of interest generated can be fortified with additional information easily accessible in the major veterinary textbooks as well on the internet with the use of an efficient search engine such as Google.
