ABSTRACT

This chapter provides a case of a 50-year-old married woman who presents with poorly controlled diabetes. The woman insists that she is putting all the advice given to her in place but that it is not helping her diabetes. She wonders whether it would be better managed if she saw you weekly. She says that he does not understand her health problems and is preoccupied with his own difficulties. She is well-dressed and although her hair is not tidy, she has used a lot of makeup. She makes good and sometimes intense eye contact. She presents as over-familiar, calling you by your first name. She begins the appointment by presenting you with a cake she has baked especially for you. When you hesitate to accept it, she urges you to take it as not doing so will be too much for her to cope with. There is no evidence of speech or mood disorder and she is not psychotic.
