ABSTRACT

Fungicides are chemical or physical agents that kill or inhibit the growth and/or development of fungi. In general, there are two types of fungicides: protectants and systemics. Protectant fungicides are chemicals that are applied to plant surfaces prior to inoculation that interact with a fungus to prevent infections from occurring, often through the inhibition of spore germination. Protectant fungicides are also referred to as contact fungicides due to the lack of postinfection activity. In contrast, a systemic fungicide is a chemical that is absorbed into and transported throughout a plant and may provide some curative or postinfection activity.
