ABSTRACT

Introduction As discussed with the world of franchisee/franchisor relationships, it is a world that is not in line with a typical and consumer-understood retail operation. On one hand, the franchisor owns the overall business name and controls the actual product offered to the public. On the other hand, the franchisee owns the actual individual business location. Even though the franchisee is the legitimate owner and operator of the individual business, the franchisor exercises some control in the actual operation. With this unique business operating setup, both sides have their goals:

◾ The goal of the franchisor is to have each and every franchisee operate his or her individual business in a manner that leads to increased year-to-year established comparable (EC) sales and quality brand integrity.
