Self-publishing is another way to get your book into the public domain, and anyone can use this route. However, there are advantages and disadvantages of self-publishing. Th e advantages include: rapid publication and fl exibility to update; complete control over your design and selling price; and greater royalty rate per book sold. However, you will not benefi t from professional help with formatting and design. As anyone can selfpublish, potential readers may question an author’s credibility. Credibility is likely to be very important to you. Further, a publisher has a much greater power to distribute your book widely, which may be your most important aim. Th erefore, before choosing self-publishing, think carefully about what you are hoping to achieve.
