ABSTRACT
While not adding the same lustre to your publications list as a peer-reviewed article, writing informal articles is an important part of disseminating new scientifi c knowledge. It can also have other benefi ts. Writing in clear, simple and readable text is particularly important for communicating science to non-specialist and lay readers. Informal writing is an opportunity to improve this skill – ultimately also to impress editors and peer reviewers! Such writing is also an opportunity get your name and your research better known (Chapter 8).
