2 Stable ectopic pregnancy: (i) Stratify these patients on the basis of the ultrasound and β-hCG
findings (a) admit patients with a positive pregnancy test, empty uterus on
TV ultrasound examination and clinical signs of an ectopic for a laparoscopy (or medical management in selected patients)
(b) follow up those patients with a positive pregnancy test, an empty uterus but no ultrasound signs of an ectopic with serial β-hCG examinations every 48 h, and a repeat ultrasound.
