An introduction to priority setting in the NHS

This chapter provides a brief overview of the key issues involved in priority setting in the 'new NHS'. As priority setting has become increasingly topical at all levels of debate, political, professional and popular, it has spawned a huge body of literature and a proliferation of 'experts'. The subject is heavily laden with political and philosophical overtones and is thus both complex and emotive.
