ABSTRACT
In the previous chapters we discussed the spectroscopic properties of molecules and nanoparticles and the utility of these spectroscopic techniques. These all involve an absorption event and in some cases an emission event as well. However, all materials have other optical properties that involve interaction of the material with electromagnetic radiation that do not necessarily involve an absorption of emission. This chapter explores some of these properties with a focus on how they affect nanoscale materials.
