Answer 1 The most common colonic polyps are adenomas and hyperplastic polyps. Adenomas are dysplastic, i.e. the epithelial cells show cytological and architectural characteristics similar to those seen in malignant cells, such as a high nuclear:cytoplasmic ratio, disorganized growth and increased numbers of mitoses.
