ABSTRACT

A 19-year-old male is referred to the outpatient clinic for investigation of thrombocytopenia. He is generally fit and well and has not had any surgery or invasive procedures. He does report that he often has nosebleeds and sometimes, these can last for up to 1 hour. He has recently noticed unexplained oral bleeding and often wakes up with a blood-stained pillow. He consulted his general practitioner (GP) who carried out a full blood count, the results of which are shown below. He has also been to see his dentist who has advised that a tooth extraction is required.
