The patient is seated on the X-ray table, supported if necessary, with the hips and knees flexed.

The plantar aspect of the affected foot is placed on the receptor.

The receptor may be raised by 15 degrees by using a pad (CR) or angling the receptor (direct digital radiography stand).

The leg may be supported in the vertical position by the other knee.
