ABSTRACT
The successful convergence of theory and practice has a great impact on developing courses in plant design. This chapter will highlight the different aspects involved in the design of chemical plants. Since the topic is too involved, we attempt to provide a balanced presentation to the strategy of process synthesis in plant design consistent with industrial practice and within the economic frame of feasible projects. The dollar sign must always be kept in mind when carrying out the design of a chemical plant.
