ABSTRACT

This chapter provides an overview of the SolidWorks computer-aided design (CAD) software, which is one of the industry-standard software that are used for the design and analysis of machine parts and assemblies. SolidWorks is a Windows native 3D solid modeling CAD program that is based on parametric modeling. The chapter discusses the role of SolidWorks within the context of the additive manufacturing framework. It describes the computer-aided engineering (CAE) framework. The chapter explores the role of SolidWorks within the context of the CAE framework. CAE which is the performance of engineering tasks or functions with the aid of a computer has experienced rapid changes over the years. The chapter shows how to start a SolidWorks session and SolidWorks user interface. It explains how to set the document options and how to set up a good file management. The chapter also explores how to start a new document in SolidWorks and useful SolidWorks resources.
