ABSTRACT
This chapter discusses Animation with Basic Motion and highlights its limitations. For more meaningful simulations, a premium price has to be paid by using SolidWorks Motion Analysis. Animation uses the key frame method in which the software interpolates between the positions that are established by mates, freehand drag, or positioning via Triad or XYZ values. Basic Motion uses motors, springs, three-dimensional (3D) contacts, and gravity; it does not use frames. It includes Physical Dynamics, which is the calculation of motion due to collision. Motion Analysis is the highest level of motion study and is an Add-In to SolidWorks. The Motion Manager Interface is accessed in the lower left of the graphics window. SolidWorks uses different types of motion studies. The Motion Manager Interface is accessed in the lower left of the graphics window. There are four physical simulation elements that are used: Gravity, 3D contacts, springs and Motors.
